Description
The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is an iconic landmark of Jupiter and South Florida, seafaring vessels first saw it's light in 1860.
The conical shaped red brick lighthouse is 108 feet tall and rests on a foundation of oyster shells. The Florida landmark is raised still higher by a natural parabolic sand dune that puts the light to 146 feet above sea level. The light is a first order fresnel and is the oldest lamp of it's kind in Florida. First order fresnels are the most powerful allowing the jupiter inlet light to be seen from a distance of 24 nautical miles at sea.
