Description
This van always makes me think of Andy Warhol and the time that I met him. It just seems like something he might do. Paint a van, park it in a gallery and call it art. I had a chance to meet him when I was a student in Manhattan. He came into the Boone Gallery to talk to someone when I was there. My jaw dropped open in awe. I stared at him a while and then did manage to say hello when he looked my way. He seemed kind of shy too and asked me if I liked any of the art in particular. It was the Jean-Michel Basquait exhibit. I like it all I answered, Yes me too he said, it's good art. Then he asked me if I had any matches and I said I didn't, that I don't smoke (but it made me feel grown up to be asked that). I imagined that he asked for a book of matches from every person he met to make a wall sized collage out of them. Warhol died the following year 1987. I have been wanting to take a photo of this van for the longest time. It is sometimes parked in front of an art gallery. It was either not there when I had my camera or I didn't have my camera when it was. One day I had my camera and it was there! I started shooting and almost immediately the gallery manager came out. He didn't seem to want me there. I asked is there any reason I shouldn't take a photo of this van? He turned and walked away.
