This tiny Screech Owl was spotted in the hollow of a palm tree about ten feet above the ground. It was so small, about 6 inches tall. I thought it was a baby but then noticed three eggs on the ground at the base of the palm tree, I realized this was a mother owl and her eggs had fallen out of the tree. One of the eggs was cracked but the other two looked good. We put a ladder up against the tree and wrapped the lower half of the hollow in window screening and placed the eggs back in the nest. Mother owl watched this procedure intensely but did not move away though human hands were inches away from her. She accepted our handiwork and was seen a short time later sitting on her eggs behind the screening with only the tops of her ears visible.
