Into the Great Wide Open - A tribute to the late great Tom Petty. My daughter texted me from school on Monday. Tom Petty died, I'm sorry Mom. I felt sick, like I got punched in the stomach I guess it was the suddenness of it, he was just playing concerts the week before. It's the very last thing I expected to read in a text from my daughter.
Tom Petty is so special to me, his music has been such a big part of my life. He has been my absolute favorite artist since I was a teen sitting on the floor of my room listening to the albums Damn the Torpedoes and Hard Promises while reading the liner notes. They were the first two albums I purchased with my own money. I have seen TP on just about every tour he did, and he toured a lt. He really loved the audience and let us know it. His last concert tour we almost didn't attend because the tickets were $300 each through a ticket broker. Our seats were in the fourth row though and worth every penny. Now even more precious of a memory as there won't be any more. What a gift he gave the world, all the great music and memorable concerts, for so many years. Just an amazing man. I can't believe he's gone.
