The vintage viewer - My earliest memory of this tower viewer is from a school field trip to NYC. The binocular viewers at the top of the Empire State Building accepted our allowance quarters and the step-up rungs supported our small feet to show us the wide world.
The design of this binocular viewer has not changed in the 90 years that it's been made by Tower Optical Company and that has helped make it into a nostalgic icon.
Only about 35 of these viewers are made per year but thousands are already situated at viewing sites in the US and Canada. You cannot purchase or own these machines but only rent them forever from the family owned and operated company. The money found in the belly of these little beasts should more than offset the rental fee. They each hold 2,000 quarters.
