Description
The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse was constructed and went into service in 1860.
The conical shaped red brick lighthouse is 108 feet tall and rests on a foundation of oyster shells. The Florida landmark sits on a natural parabolic sand dune that raises the light to 146 feet above sea level. The light is a first order fresnel and is the oldest lamp of it's kind in Florida. First order fresnels are the most powerful allowing the jupiter inlet light to be seen from a distance of 24 nautical miles at sea.
