Description
Beginnings at the shore, a Loggerhead Sea Turtle nest hatched in the night. I was fortunate to witness some of this event before sunrise. Most of the nests hatch in the middle of the night when they have the best chance of avoiding predators like seagulls. After 2 months under the sand, the baby turtles tear through their shells, dig their way out and crawl into the sea. Loggerheads are an endangered and protected species. There is a classic black and white version of this piece available in my gallery.
