A juvenile gopher tortoise in a wildflower patch in the Jupiter Ridge Natural Area. This young wild gopher tortoise was injured and made a burrow in my yard to escape predators while he recovered, which took over a year. He now lives in his natural habitat in the nearby nature preserve. It's always a treat to see him when I'm out hiking. I know him from his yellow markings. They usually fade after a few years of age but his have not which I think made him a more susceptible to predators.
